DIY: How to Make a Wireless Lamp
Are you missing outlets where you want to plug in a lamp? Well us too! Our house lacks plugs in a lot of areas so I figured, “Hey, why not DIY some wireless lamps that we can move around!” I’m happy to share with you guys how I made these cute portable lamps.
They were so easy and not to mention cheap to make. I spent about $10 on each lamp. If you’re more of a visual person, watch my reel on how to make these.
Materials You Need
- Rechargeable LED orb (these are from Amazon and change 15 different colors!)
- Glass vases (thrifted)
- Magnets
- Hot glue gun
- Paper Bag (tip: snag some free ones from your nearest grocery store; preferably thick)
- Paint and paintbrush
- Baking powder
Creating a Magnetized Top on Your Vase
To begin, you’ll need to add a magnet inside your vase so that your LED orb will attach and stay. I love this feature because if you ever want to switch out the size of the LED orb its easily swappable. It also makes it easier to recharge the LED orb!
First, trace the top of your vase on a paper bag and cut out a circle to size. This should cover your vase but not drape over it. Then, hot glue your first magnet onto one side of your paper circle. You will need to flip over your paper circle so the magnet is on the inside of the vase. Hot glue the paper circle to the lid of the vase.
This next step is important. Try to be consistent with which side of the magnet (north or south pole) you are using. You’ll want to make sure to use the opposite pole so your magnets will attach and not repel. Once you figure out which side will stick to the magnet inside your vase, hot glue it accordingly to your LED orb. Test the magnets out to make sure the LED orb sticks to the vase!
How to Turn Glass to Terracotta
I know it sounds like a magic trick but this is super simple. I used this trick on my holiday ornaments as well. Its a great use of extra house paint that you have laying around. You simply add about 3 tsp of baking powder to paint and mix. The mixture will be fluffy. Use this fluffy paint to entirely paint your glass vase. The result will look and feel like dried clay!
The Finale
When your vase is dry, all you have to do is attach your magnetized LED orb. Now you have a portable lamp. It’s so easy! If you end up making these I’d love to see it! Send me a pic or tag me on Instagram!
