DIY: How to Make Dried Orange Slices for Decoration
Dried orange slices have become a popular décor item for all seasons. They look stunning and are very cheap to make. Not to mention your home will smell deliciously citrusy during the dehydration process! I used only 5 oranges to decorate my entryway, Christmas tree, and garlands. Each orange gave me about 5 good slices. Watch my Instagram reel on “How to Make Dried Orange Slices” here.
How long will dried orange slices last?
The great thing about this DIY is that it because you are dehydrating these oranges, the dried oranges can last for years if stored properly. Keep them in a cool, dry place preferably in a container away from any humidity. If you have a vacuum sealer that will keep your slices looking their best. Your dried orange slices should no longer be used once they become pale, off-color, and/or break easily.
What can dried orange slices be used for?
Dried orange slices can be used for:
- Ornaments
- Garland
- Tablescapes
- Potpourri
- Giftwrap Accessory
Will dried orange slices attract bugs into my home?
Dried orange slices do not attract bugs as long as they are properly dehydrated. Your dried orange slices should no longer be soft or sticky. Moisture can cause the slice to rot and attract bugs.
Tip: Try stringing dried oranges on a kabob stick and letting them hang to dry for an extra few days if your home is on a more humid side.
Do dried orange slices have a smell?
Dried orange slices have a slight citrus smell, but it is very very faint.
Tip: Add a dusting of roasted cinnamon to wet orange slices before dehydrating for a yummy holiday smell.
